A hamstring strain is a tear of one of the muscles at the back of the thigh, common in sprinting and kicking sports, and recovering well means more than waiting for the pain to go: it means rebuilding strength, especially at longer muscle lengths, and confirming the hamstring is genuinely ready before returning to sport, because hamstring injuries have a stubbornly high rate of recurrence.
