Common questions
- What does the physiotherapy section cover?
- Common injuries and conditions seen in Milton Keynes, from back pain, sciatica and shoulder pain to Achilles, knee and ankle problems, with what the assessment involves, what treatment usually looks like, and when surgery is and is not the answer.
- How is physiotherapy at Hanbury Health different?
- Assessment is objective and the team is coordinated. Physiotherapy sits alongside diagnostic ultrasound, performance testing and recovery, with consultant orthopaedic input available, so a plan can be adjusted without starting again somewhere else.
- Do I need a GP referral to book physiotherapy?
- No referral is needed to book privately. If you are claiming through private health insurance, your insurer may ask for a referral or authorisation first, so it is worth checking with them before your appointment.
- How many sessions will I need?
- For straightforward problems, most people need 3 to 6 sessions, often combined with a home exercise programme. Complex or post-surgical cases take longer and are reassessed session by session. You are given an expected range at the first appointment, along with what should change between sessions, so progress can be judged rather than assumed.
- Should I rest or keep moving after an injury?
- For most soft tissue injuries, complete rest beyond the first few days tends to slow recovery. The usual approach is protected, graded loading, which is why an early assessment matters more than waiting to see if it settles.
- Who writes and reviews these articles?
- They are written by the physiotherapists who deliver the service, Nick Allen BSc (Hons) MCSP and Simon Jones MPhil BSc (Hons) MCSP, and medically reviewed by Prof Arul Ramasamy MA PhD MBA FRCS(Tr+Orth).
