Who it's for

Who the recovery circuit is built for.

This is not a spa experience. It is a performance recovery tool, used by people who place real demands on their body and want a structured way to support it.

  • You are training consistently and not recovering between sessions.

  • You are pushing hard and have hit a plateau you cannot train your way through.

  • You are coming back from injury and want structured support alongside your rehab.

  • You are curious about cryotherapy, or about using a structured recovery protocol properly, not as a one-off wellness treat.

  • You are training for an event and want your recovery treated as seriously as your training.

  • You are managing a heavy physical or mental load, training, work, life, and need a way to reset that isn't another obligation.

  • You already train or work with the Hanbury team, physiotherapy, Reformer Pilates and Yoga, and want recovery built into the same plan, not treated as a separate decision.

The circuit is also used by people in structured rehabilitation, where reducing inflammation and supporting tissue recovery is part of the clinical plan.

Why recovery is not rest

Training creates stress. Adaptation, the reason you train at all, happens during recovery, not during the session itself. The session is the signal; recovery is the response.

Insufficient recovery stalls that adaptation, blunts progress and increases injury risk. Fatigue accumulates, tissue quality drops, sleep and mood follow, and the training that used to move you forward starts to move you sideways.

Structured recovery, cold exposure to trigger an anti-inflammatory response, mechanical compression to support circulation, and guided regulation of the nervous system, actively creates the conditions the body needs to repair. It is not passive rest. It is a deliberate physiological intervention with a clear mechanism, for three different systems in the body, in one guided session.

  1. Step 1Train
  2. Step 2Stress
  3. Step 3Recover
  4. Step 4Adapt

The recovery circuit

Three systems, one guided session.

Three systems, each answering a different demand on the body after real effort, an inflammatory response to calm, circulation to support, a nervous system to settle. One guided visit brings all three together.

  • Mecotec cryo:one+ whole-body cryotherapy chamber at Hanbury Health, Milton Keynes

    Cryotherapy

Sharp, whole-body cold to trigger an anti-inflammatory response.

Brief, controlled exposure to extreme cold rapidly reduces tissue temperature, triggering an anti-inflammatory response and activating the nervous system. As the body returns to normal temperature afterwards, circulation increases and tissue repair accelerates.

  • Revive compression boots by RecoverXperience at Hanbury Health, Milton Keynes

    Compression Boots

Sequential pneumatic compression to support circulation through the legs.

Sequential pneumatic compression through the legs, wave by wave from the feet upward. Circulation is actively supported and the metabolic byproducts that accumulate after hard training are cleared, faster than they would be by passive rest.

  • Shiftwave nervous-system downshift session at Hanbury Health, Milton Keynes

    Shiftwave

Guided nervous-system downshift, the finish that helps the session settle.

A guided full-body vibration session synchronised with breathwork and audio coaching, designed to help the nervous system downshift out of a high-stress or high-load state. This is the system in the circuit aimed at recovery from mental and physical load equally, not just physical output.

    Read more about Shiftwave

Your circuit runs in a set order, cold first, then circulation, then a guided finish to help the nervous system settle. It was built for where you are and what you need, not what's convenient to offer.

Beyond the circuit

The full recovery suite.

The recovery circuit is the starting point. Four further systems are available at Hanbury, each chosen for a specific physiological purpose, making this the only place in Milton Keynes bringing all seven together in one coordinated suite.

    Contrast Therapy

What to expect

What to expect from your recovery circuit.

  1. 01

    On arrival

You're met by the team for a short conversation, your training load, how you're feeling today, and any relevant context that should shape the session. You're shown around and walked through the flow before you begin.

  2. 02

    The circuit

A guided session moving through cryotherapy first, then compression boots, then Shiftwave to finish, in that order. Your guide confirms the flow with you before you start, and you won't be left to navigate it alone.

  3. 03

    After the circuit

Most people notice a combination of physical release and mental clarity in the hours following. A brief debrief on what to expect and any guidance for your next session before you head on with your day.

A towel, swimwear, and water. Everything else is provided.

A session can also be built around any of the systems in the wider suite, arranged directly with the team.

Why this is different

Why this is different from a wellness centre.

Most facilities provide access to equipment. Hanbury provides a structured protocol, with a clear rationale, a specific sequence and a guided experience from the moment you arrive.

The order matters. The duration matters. Applied without a clear rationale, or in the wrong sequence, the same systems give a very different, and often worse, outcome than when they're used with intent.

Recovery here is treated with the same clinical rigour as the rest of the method. It's why the recovery suite integrates naturally with physiotherapy and movement, and why the experts running it are working from the same picture of you that the rest of the team is.

In Milton Keynes

  • Hanbury is the only place in Milton Keynes offering whole-body cryotherapy.
  • It is also the only place bringing all seven of these recovery systems, cryotherapy, compression therapy, Shiftwave, contrast therapy, infrared sauna, hyperbaric oxygen with hydrogen, and medical red light therapy, plus lymphatic drainage, together in one coordinated suite, not as separate treatments booked at separate venues around the city.

Three reasons people come

Three reasons people come to the recovery circuit.

  • 01 · The athlete

    The athlete or serious trainer.

You train with intent. The gains you're looking for don't come from the session alone, they come from how well your body absorbs it. The recovery circuit is a way to make that recovery structured, repeatable and honest about what your body actually needs between sessions.

  • 02 · The rehabilitation

    The person in rehabilitation.

You're coming back from an injury, or working through something that hasn't fully settled. Recovery is part of the clinical plan here, reducing inflammation, supporting tissue repair, and keeping the nervous system out of a defensive pattern while the rest of the work is done in physiotherapy.

  • 03 · The high load

The person carrying a high load.

You're not training for anything specific, but the load on your body is real. A demanding job, a long training week, a stretch of poor sleep, a family and a life stacked on top. The circuit is one of the few structured ways to bring the body out of that state, without adding another obligation to the calendar or another treatment to think about. You arrive full. You leave lighter. That's the whole point.

Recovery is one part of a larger picture.

The circuit works best when it sits alongside the rest of your plan, a physiotherapy assessment to understand what your body is doing, and a movement programme that gives it something to adapt to. Recovery is where those two are made to stick.

What clients say

I've used cold and infrared piecemeal for years. Doing it as a prescribed circuit, in the right order, at the right doses, was the first time it actually felt like recovery instead of a novelty.

I came in mid-way through a heavy training block, unsure whether I needed a rest week or a recovery protocol. Three sessions in, the answer was obvious. Slept better, trained better, felt like myself again.

Questions

Recovery FAQs

No. The circuit is designed to be accessible to first-timers and useful for experienced athletes alike. Doses, durations and sequence are prescribed to where you are, not to an average. If it's your first time, you'll be walked through everything, and nothing is done at a level your body isn't ready for.
