Common questions
- What does the performance section cover?
- Objective testing and what to do with the numbers: VO2 max, lactate threshold, training zones, body composition, resting metabolic rate, force plate testing and strength and movement screening, plus how those results shape a training plan.
- Do I need to be a competitive athlete to be tested?
- No. Testing is used by runners, Hyrox and team sport athletes, and by people who simply want a measured starting point rather than a guess. The value is the same: knowing where you are before deciding what to train.
- What is the difference between VO2 max and lactate threshold?
- VO2 max is the ceiling on how much oxygen you can use. Lactate threshold is the intensity you can hold before fatigue accelerates. Most endurance progress comes from moving the threshold, which is why both are measured and read together.
- Why not just train by feel or use a watch?
- Wearable zones are estimated from age-based formulas rather than measured from your physiology, so they can put you in the wrong intensity for the session you intended. Measured zones remove that guesswork.
- How often should performance testing be repeated?
- Testing is most useful as a before and after. People typically retest after a training block or ahead of a target event, so the second set of numbers shows whether the plan worked.
